Stainless steel tips

Bautek cleaning tips for your steel kitchen

Stainless steel products do not need any particular servicing. However, they do require a certain care and use of adequate detergents for daily cleang. By and large, all that's needed is to wash with hot water and soap, and thoroughly rinse and dry with a cloth.

Do not use: hydrochloric acid, abrasive powders, steel wool, brushes and products for cleaning silver. When it comes to detergents for cleaning steel, Foster recommends the products in the "Steel Clean" line:
  • All-purpose aerosol for daily cleaning use.
  • Microfiber cloth to wipe off traces of grease and powder.
  • Professional cream to restore the original splendour of the steel, remove scaling, stubborn dirt and rust marks caused by contact with ferrous materials.

Maintenance tips for Foster products

Stainless steel products do not need special maintenance; however, it is advisable to take some precautions and use appropriate detergents for daily cleaning.

In general, washing with hot water and soap or hot water and vinegar, abundant rinsing and drying with a cloth are sufficient.

The following should be avoided: hydrochloric acid, abrasive powders, scouring pads, brushes and substances for cleaning silver.

Recommended products

To guide you in your choice of cleaning agents, Foster offers the Steel Clean range of products for cleaning steel:
  • microfibre cloth, for quickly removing traces of grease, oil and dust.
  • professional cream to restore steel to its original splendour, removes limescale deposits, stubborn dirt and any rust stains caused by prolonged contact with ferrous objects.

Ordinary Cleaning

Correct maintenance of your stainless steel surfaces will enable you to keep them shining and unaltered over time.
For proper routine maintenance of stainless steel we recommend the use of the following products:
  • Microfibre cloth
  • Water
  • White vinegar or dishwashing detergent
Procedure:
We recommend mixing water and vinegar in equal parts in a separate container, with the water-vinegar mixture dip the cloth and wipe it over the stainless steel surface, once the surface has been cleaned with the water-vinegar mixture proceed with a rinse with plenty of running water. Finish by wiping the surface dry.

Extraordinary cleaning

The daily use of the stainless steel sink or hob leads to the formation of stains (whitish, iridescent or rust-coloured) that in no way denote a poor quality or defectiveness of the material. The most common situations are stains from evaporated water showing deposits of mineral residues, residues from washing or cleaning products that have not been rinsed off properly, cooking liquids, salt, lemon or tomato juice, etc..

Any surface that has suffered aggression can be treated using Foster Steel Clean cream.

The cream's potential guarantees the elimination of residues that damage the surface, enabling the regeneration of the steel's protective layer.

Procedure:
  • Pour a good amount of cream on the steel (depending on the surface to be treated)
  • Scrub with the aid of a soft cloth (e.g. microfibre) rubbing with a suitable amount of force following the direction of the steel brushing. At this point the cloth should turn grey, an indication that the product is working properly
  • Rub the cream vigorously over the entire surface of the stainless steel
  • The cream should be rubbed all over until it becomes a light layer of white powder
  • At the end of the treatment, rinse with plenty of water to remove all residues of the cream used
  • After rinsing, dry the surface

In the case of stubborn residues or Pitting Corrosion (localised corrosion spots), it is necessary to repeat the treatment several times to "clean" the contaminated area and ensure the correct formation of the passivating layer.
